Call of Duty Black Ops pay to play multiplayer rumors

Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter spoke about "paying to play" after software sales fell 15% these past couple of months. The fault? Online multi-player games that give alot of replay value but at the same time make those same people less inclined to buy new video games.

"...we think that the overall decline was due to a very large number of people playing multiplayer online games for free on PlayStation Network, and for an annual fee with unlimited game play on Xbox Live," Pachter noted. "We estimate that a total of 12 million consumers are playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 for an average of 10 hours per week on the two platforms’ respective networks, and the continued enjoyment of this game (along with an estimated 6 million Halo online players, 3 million EA Sports players, and 5 million players playing other games, such as Battlefield, Red Dead Redemption, Left 4 Dead and Grand Theft Auto) has sucked the available time away from what otherwise would be spent playing newly purchased games."

Some so called "evidence" of possible future pay to play system.

Call of Duty: Black Ops to sell over 12 million copies

Activision's and Treyarch's upcoming release; Call of Duty: Black Ops, the first person shooter that is based on secret operations during the Cold War is set to release on November 9. And recent information coming from analysts such as Evan Wilson from Pacific Crest has updated his sales expectations of the game to over 12 million units. There have been more pre orders for CoD Black Ops than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had at the same point during last year.

That is still quite a hefty increase from the 10 million he was talking about earlier in the year. It seems that the decision to increase the expected sales for the new first person shooter has come after retailers pointed out that there are more pre orders for Black Ops than expected.

Three Upcoming Call of Duty games set for release

Over 4.7 million copies sold within 24 hours of its release, CoD: Modern warfare 2 was the 3rd best selling game in the United States. The Call of Duty series is a first person shooter (FPS) distributed for almost all game consoles such as Sony Playstation, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, and PC.

Whether you want to play campaign, cooperative or multiplayer, this game revolutionized the way for the first person shooter genre. For those old enough to remember the what an FPS game was; Doom, it was the grand daddy of first person shooters until CoD stepped up to the plate and dethroned it. One of the main attractions of the CoD series is that everything is customizable. From your weapons, weapon attachments, grenades and even kill streaks!

There are currently 3 Call of Duty games confirmed that are currently under development.

Call of Duty 7 BlackOps

Black Ops is currently under development by Treyarch and will be the 7th installment in the series. The game sets place in the Cold War era taking place in various locations including Russia, Cuba, and Vietnam. Players are set in missions taking place behind enemy lines with many covert operations. Confirmed enemies so far will include the Viet Cong, and Russian forces. What the most interesting concept they implemented in this release is that kill streaks now will carry over even if you die! Black Ops is set to release November 9th, 2010.
